Laura Jeffers began her career in technology and education in the mid 1980s at Scholastic, Inc., where she designed and developed educational software. Her interest in the emerging challenges of technology access and equity led her to Playing to Win, a community technology center in Harlem, New York. There she became the founding director of the Playing to Win Network, an affiliation of community technology centers across the country (later renamed CTCnet). Since joining CCT in 1994, Laura has worked on a wide range of research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects, and much of her work continues to focus on issues of diversity and equity, especially in informal learning environments.
Outside of CCT, Laura is an accomplished performer and teacher of Lindy Hop (swing dance) and has been involved as a board member and volunteer with a number of feminist and arts-related organizations, including (in the distant past) Pete Seeger’s New York City Streetsingers and (currently) the Crystal Quilt’s Women Transforming the Arts.
