A Prescription for Science—and Fun

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

In “From Puddles to Pigeons: Learning about Nature in Cities,” EDC|CCT researchers Dr. Marion Goldstein and Jamie Kynn, and colleague Lisa Famularo, discuss nature deficit disorder and the PlumRx project to study the challenges and opportunities of active outdoor exploration with urban children 6 to 9 years old. The three-year NSF-funded initiative brought the research team together with media producers from WGBH to develop science-learning resources based on the PBS KIDS “Plum Landing” program. The result was a free, downloadable toolkit of resources to enable children, parents, and educators to begin to explore the urban outdoors.
