New Research: Early Science Learning is Critical

Thursday, March 1, 2018

Researchers from EDC|CCT and SRI International have released a report on a first-of-its-kind study of parents and the educational activities they do with their young children (ages 3–6). The study, commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education's Ready To Learn Initiative, led by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and PBS, consisted of a national telephone survey of more than 1,400 parents and a follow-up qualitative study with in-depth interviews of parents in low-income households. Many parents told the researchers that they feel it's important to help their children learn at home, but they also said that having access to ideas and activities to encourage their children's science learning would help them do more.

The report, titled What Parents Talk About When They Talk About Learning: A National Survey About Young Children and Science, can be found here.
